LAUREL, Md., June 12 (UPI) -- The girlfriend of Edward Snowden, who said he leaked data on U.S. surveillance programs, posted on her blog she felt "lost at sea" because of his actions.

"For those of you that know me without my super hero cape, you can probably understand why I'll be refraining from blog posts for awhile. My world has opened and closed all at once. Leaving me lost at sea without a compass," Lindsay Mills blogged Monday, a day after U.S. and British media outlets published Snowden's identity as the source of reports on the National Security Agency's cellphone and Internet surveillance programs.

Also Monday Mills wrote on photo-sharing website Flickr she "lost my compass and find myself adrift in a sea of chaos. Goodbye my friends. I'll see you when the waves calmly set my vessel back on dry land."

Her blog has gone offline, CNN reported Tuesday.

Nothing indicates Mills knew of Snowden's actions, CNN said.

Speaking to reporters at his Laurel, Md., home, Mills' father, Jonathan Mills, described Snowden as a "nice, shy, reserved" man his daughter dated for four to five years.

"He's always had strong convictions of right and wrong, and it kind of makes sense, but [I'm] still shocked," Mills said.

Snowden told the British newspaper The Guardian, one of two publications that broke stories on the NSA spy programs last week, he left his job with an NSA contractor in Hawaii without telling his family or Mills.

"My family does not know what is happening," he said. "My primary fear is that they will come after my family, my friends, my partner."

Snowden had been holed up in a Hong Kong hotel, but U.S. officials said he checked out and his current whereabouts are unknown.
