Fla. university sets up diversity site

BOCA RATON, Fla., June 11 (UPI) -- A group at Florida Atlantic University supporting the Palestinians denies allegations of anti-Semitism.

Noor Fawzy of Students for Justice in Palestine said the group has Jewish members, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday.

The university has created a website that describes FAU as committed to diversity.

"I think it's unfortunate that the university has to go out of its way to start up this website as a way of defending itself against baseless and empty claims of anti-Semitism," Fawzy said.

Alan Bergstein of Boca Raton, Fla., has posted videos on YouTube accusing SJP of anti-Semitism and the university of tolerating it. On his latest video, which opens with the announcement that Fawzy just received an award for community service, he claims his campaign has led to a drop in donations to FAU.

Charles Brown, vice president for student affairs, said in a letter posted on the diversity site that the university "allows constitutionally protected free expression, but it has not and will not tolerate anti-Semitism."
