Her public profile described Clinton as a "Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD ..."

By 5 p.m. EDT, she had more than 179,000 followers and was following five.

And one tweet.

On the day Clinton posted her a tweet with the handle @HillaryClinton, a poll found her popularity dipped a bit after she stepped down as secretary of state.

Clinton's popularity has topped that of her peers within the Obama administration but a Gallup poll released Monday indicated her favorability dipped from April. The poll indicated 58 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the former Secretary of State now, down from 64 percent in April and the first time since 2008 her favorability rating was less than 60 percent.

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, joined Twitter in April, with his official handle @billclinton.
