Calif. college where shooting spree ended reopens

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 10 (UPI) -- Students were back at Santa Monica College in California Monday amid increased security following a shooting in which five people were killed, officials said.

The library where many students sought refuge, and where at least 70 rounds were fired by the suspect, remained closed, KABC-TV, Los Angeles. reported.

Police have identified the gunman as John Zawahri, 23, but say his motives in the shooting rampage are still unclear.

The shooting spree began before noon Friday and continued in several locations around Santa Monica before ending on the college campus.

A candlelight vigil was scheduled on campus for 6 p.m.
