Tsarnaev acquaintance lunged at agent with sword before shooting

ORLANDO, Fla., May 29 (UPI) -- A Central Florida man being questioned by an FBI agent about the Boston Marathon bombings was shot after he drew a sword on the agent, a Boston TV station says.

Ibragim Todashev was killed May 22 after he lunged at the agent while being interviewed at a condominium in Orlando, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday, citing a story by WXFT-TV, the FOX affiliate in Boston.

Todashev, 27, knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a suspect in the Boston bombings, because both of them were involved in the mixed martial arts community in Massachusetts.

At the time of his death, two Massachusetts State Police troopers and other law enforcement officials were questioning Todashev about a triple homicide in Massachusetts. Todashev and Tsarnaev were suspects in the deaths of three men who had their throats cut in 2011.

During the interview, Todashev was asked to write a statement about his role in the killings. After he began writing, he flipped a table and began waving a sword at the FBI agent, who had been knocked into a wall, the station's report said.
