FBI agent loses M-4 rifle to car thieves

NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- An FBI agent living in New York City lost a government-issued assault rifle and bullet-proof vest when his car was stolen, investigators said.

The car was parked outside the agent's home in the Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens when it disappeared Tuesday night, the New York Post reported. The rifle and vest were in the Toyota Camry's trunk.

The gun was described as an M-4 rifle.

The unidentified agent has had a previous brush with car thieves. Last year, he fired from his bedroom window at men he said were trying to steal his car.

A man who showed up at a hospital with a bullet-wound in the back was arrested as a suspect.

The FBI said it was investigating the shooting. It has not released any findings on whether the agent complied with rules about using deadly force.
