DALLAS, May 29 (UPI) -- A gay marriage resolution will not be on the Dallas City Council's agenda after a member withdrew her support for the measure, the mayor's chief of staff said.
The council likely will not vote as scheduled on June 22 on the resolution supporting same-sex marriage, since council member Delia Jasso withdrew her support, said Paula Blackmon, chief of staff to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.
Jasso's support was considered crucial to forcing the item to a vote.
Under council rules, five members can call a vote on an issue, and hers' was the fifth in support of the gay marriage resolution, which Rawlings opposes, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday.
It is unclear why Jasso withdrew her support, the newspaper said, noting she was defeated last month, in the only council election involving two incumbents, by Scott Griggs, the council member who introduced the measure.
