62-year-old man dies in California skydiving accident

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif., May 26 (UPI) -- A 62-year-old skydiver was killed in Southern California this weekend when a joint maneuver with other parachutists apparently went awry, authorities said.

Ken Oka of Mira Loma died about 3 p.m. Saturday when he plummeted to the ground, landing in the back yard of a home in Lake Elsinore, U-T San Diego reported. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital, the newspaper said.

Lake Elsinore police said in a release a preliminary investigation found a group of skydivers were trying a multiple-person maneuver when Oka became entangled in a parachute and was unable to free himself.

Police said the Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the accident.
