Police search Oregon for remains of woman

SALEM, Ore., May 16 (UPI) -- Police entered their third day of searching rural Oregon for the remains of Susan Cox Powell after receiving a tip from her father, officials said.

Chuck Cox, the missing woman's father, told officers that an aunt and uncle of Susan Powell's husband, Josh Powell, lived on the property at the time of her disappearance.

"We were very optimistic when [police] went down there," Cox told The Salt Lake Tribune. "This could really be the place. Then the dogs failed to find anything."

Susan Powell was last seen in 2009 at her home in West Valley City, Utah. Her husband claimed he left the home around midnight and went camping with his sons, ages 4 and 2.

Josh Powell remained a person of interest until 2012, when he killed his sons and set their rental house on fire, killing himself.

An attorney for Susan Powell's parents, Steve Downing, has theorized that Josh Powell poisoned pancakes he cooked for his wife the night she disappeared, the Tribune reported.
