DETROIT, May 16 (UPI) -- Former Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers, the wife of veteran U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., finished a term of home confinement Thursday.
Conyers will remain on supervised release for two years, The Detroit News reported. She was sentenced to 37 months in prison in 2010 after pleading guilty to accepting a bribe to change her vote on a sewage contract and served some of her time at the federal prison camp for women in Alderson, W.Va.
After returning to Detroit, Conyers got a job at Metrotech Automotive Group, a Detroit auto body shop, and apparently plans to continue working there. The News tried to interview her Wednesday but got little information.
"I am happy. I am so happy," she said, before refusing further comment.
Other employees were protective of her.
"We don't want the cameras out here. She's living her life, and she's paid her dues," Mike Ghani of Dearborn Heights, manager of the Metrotech car dealership, told the News.
