PHILADELPHIA, May 14 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia boy whose parents said he was bullied in school before he died didn't suffer any physical trauma that contributed to his death, officials said.
Bailey O'Neill, 12, whose story rallied several professional athletes to oppose bullying and shook the community, died of epileptic seizures two months after a schoolyard altercation where officials said the child and another boy got into a fight. O'Neill was struck four times, twice in the face, and went to the nurse for treatment. He was held out of school the following day by his parents, who said their son had been bullied and beaten at the Darby Township School.
Shortly after the incident, O'Neill had a string of medical ailments and was placed in a medically induced coma from which he never recovered.
Despite the timing after the fight, a report from the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office concluded there was no injury sustained during the Jan. 10 incident that contributed to O'Neill's death March 3, The Philadelphia Inquirer said Tuesday.
The family declined to comment.
