TEMPE, Ariz., May 14 (UPI) -- A college student was left at a Tempe, Ariz., hospital with an excessive blood alcohol level and a note mentioning a drinking contest, police said.
The unidentified Arizona State University student, 19, was discovered in a wheelchair early Sunday in the emergency room lobby of St. Luke's Hospital with an attached Post-It note reading "I've been drinking and I need help, "Tempe Police Sgt. Michael Pooley said.
Pooley added members of the school's Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity brought the student to the hospital after he began shaking and turning blue before passing out.
The student had consumed about 20 shots of tequila in a drinking competition that night, bringing his blood alcohol level to 0.47, far above Arizona's legal consideration of intoxication of 0.08, a police spokesman said, adding he would be cited for consuming alcohol as a minor.
The fraternity drew national headlines in November, when a member, Jack Culolias, drowned in Tempe's Salt River after leaving a fraternity party. His autopsy indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.28, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, said.
