Arrest warrant issued in New Orleans parade shooting

NEW ORLEANS, May 13 (UPI) -- Police in New Orleans Monday issued an arrest warrant for Akein Scott, 19, who is wanted in the Mother's Day parade shooting spree that left 19 people wounded.

Scott was shown in surveillance video footage recorded Sunday during the Mother's Day second-line parade in the minutes before and after the shooting, WDSU-TV, New Orleans, reported.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said police executed search warrants at three different addresses Monday night but were unsuccessful in finding Scott.

"We are coming to find him. We will find him," Serpas said.

Scott was arrested in March and charged with illegally carrying a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance. He was indicted April 22 and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

The shooting happened about 1:45 p.m. Sunday on the 1400 block of Frenchmen Street; 10 men, seven women, a 10-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were struck by bullets, police said. The children were in good condition; however, one man and one woman required surgery.

Police said three suspects were spotted fleeing the scene. Serpas said police believe the trio worked together and used at least two weapons.
