Authorities seize 8 dogs maybe involved in fatal mauling

LITTLEROCK, Calif., May 10 (UPI) -- Police in Littlerock, Calif., said they found a marijuana growing operation while searching for a pack of pit bulls that mauled a woman to death.

An unidentified man, 29, was arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana after police conducted a search of the property, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Detectives working with animal control officers seized eight dogs, six of them pit bulls, Thursday, Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said deputies saw the woman, 63, being attacked by a pack of pit bulls Thursday, after being alerted by a passing motorist. Deputies fired weapons toward the dogs, causing them to flee.

The woman, whose name wasn't reported, died on the way to a hospital, the newspaper said.
