Doctor charged for attacking girlfriend over Facebook post

MIAMI, May 9 (UPI) -- A Florida doctor has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking his girlfriend over a Facebook post, authorities said.

Dr. Orlando Llorente, 41, was charged Wednesday with one count of attempted murder and kidnapping for allegedly attacking Leeanne Sauma, 36, on April 21, The Miami Herald reported.

Police said Llorente, a plastic surgeon, allegedly held Sauma captive for 16 hours in her apartment, continuously assaulting her.

"He became enraged, grabbed her by the hair, took her into the bathroom, and not only stuck her head inside the toilet, but then put her in the tub and was able to get a rag and stuff it down her mouth," Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said.

He also punched her, put a plastic bag over her head and threatened to kill her, police said.

The contents of the Facebook post weren't released.

Llorente's lawyer Marcos Beaton issued a statement saying: "Dr. Llorente voluntarily surrendered to authorities ... and is resolute on clearing his name. He reached out to law enforcement, through his lawyers, when these false allegations surfaced. We are disappointed that our requests for more time in which to present a thorough and thoughtful examination into the source of the allegations and the facts surrounding them was declined."
