MELBOURNE, Fla., May 5 (UPI) -- A South Florida teen says being bitten by a shark won't keep him out of the water.
Michael Adler, 15, of Fort Lauderdale was bitten on a foot and ankle by a shark while surfing with friends at Sebastian Inlet State Park in Melbourne Saturday, WSVN-TV, Miami, reported.
"I was making sure they got pictures," he said. "I was just mad about having to miss all the waves, but not really the shark."
The wounds required several stitches.
"He had 20 holes on top of his foot, said Dr. Mark Munro, who treated Adler. "One larger one was 3 inches long, and that's the one that went to the top of his foot down to the bone of the ankle joint."
The attack occurred after Adler was knocked off his board by a strong wave. The water was murky so he didn't see the shark, WSVN-TV said.
"It felt like I'd stepped in coral and a bunch of rocks," he said. "I wasn't sure it was a shark when it first happened."
Once he got back on his board, he said, "I realized, like, 5 seconds after, I'm like, 'Ah, that was probably a shark.'"
