CHICAGO, May 3 (UPI) -- Prosecutors Friday successfully fought an order that would have released a Chicago-area teenager accused of planning to join a terrorist group to house arrest.
U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang reversed a decision by U.S. Magistrate Daniel Martin to release Abdella Ahmad Touinisi, 18, of Aurora to home confinement on an unsecured $50,000 bond. Chang agreed with prosecutors Touinisi posed a danger and a flight risk, WBBM-AM, Chicago, reported.
Martin had stayed his Thursday ruling, giving prosecutors time to appeal.
Touinisi was arrested April 19 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, accused of attempting to travel to Syria to join a terrorist group. He had been in contact with someone he thought was an online recruiter but actually was an undercover agent, prosecutors said.
Tounisi is charged with providing material support to terrorism.
