PRINCETON, N.J., April 17 (UPI) -- Thirty percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the country's direction, the highest level since last fall, a Gallup survey indicated Wednesday.
The survey was taken before Monday's twin explosions near the finish line at the Boston Marathon in which three people were killed and at least 175 were wounded.
Aside from last fall's ratings in the 30s, the only other times satisfaction reached that level was in May through August 2009, during the early months of Barack Obama's presidency, Gallup said.
Satisfaction with the direction the country is headed hasn't reached the 40 percent level since July 2005, and hasn't reached 50 percent level since January 2004.
Democrats, at 48 percent, and non-whites, at 46 percent, were the most likely to express satisfaction with conditions in the United States, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said. Satisfaction among young adults and liberals also topped 40 percent.
Republicans, at 12 percent, were the least satisfied, results indicated.
Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 2,017 adults conducted April 4-14. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
