DENVER, April 16 (UPI) -- A snowstorm left Denver with icy and slushy roads Tuesday, and eastern Colorado and northern Arizona with snow and gusty winds, meteorologists said.
Black ice and rutted, frozen roads led to numerous crashes during rush hour in Denver Tuesday morning, with some stretches of road described as "skating rinks," The Denver Post said, noting lane recognition on some roads was non-existent.
Denver International Airport reported 7.5 inches of snow and the delay of 25 flights Monday, an airport press release said.
Heavy snow was reported in the High Plains of eastern Colorado, with 12-to-18 inches falling between Boulder and Fort Collins, Accuweather.com said Tuesday. The snow was expected to move toward southeastern Wyoming by Tuesday night.
In Arizona, Interstate 40 was closed for more than 30 miles due to winds as high as 60 mph and a reduction in visibility near Winslow, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
