DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., April 16 (UPI) -- DeVry University, an operator of colleges and training schools, acknowledges it is under investigation by the attorneys general of Illinois and Massachusetts.

Information about DeVry's compensation practices was subpoenaed this month by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who is investigating whether the school is in compliance with federal law banning incentives to employees for achieving enrollment targets.

Massachusetts is investigating whether DeVry caused false claims to be submitted to state regarding student loans, grants and guarantees offered students.

In the SEC filing, DeVry said it is approaching the investigations with "an interest in demonstrating the compliant nature of its practices in cooperation with the authorities."

DeVry has more than 90 campuses with about 80,000 students.
