MINNEAPOLIS, April 9 (UPI) -- A Minnesota woman who celebrated her pregnancy with liquor and pills pleaded guilty to hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving under the influence.
Teisha Yovonne Randle, 27, of St. Paul entered a guilty plea Monday to vehicular homicide, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. She faces a possible four years in prison when she is sentenced April 22, a few days after her birthday.
Randle had been celebrating the news that she was pregnant when she got involved in the crash. Her lawyer said she terminated the pregnancy after her arrest.
"She feels she can't bring a life into this world knowing she's taken one," Carollina Lamas said.
The victim, Austin Conley, 20, an Augsburg College student, was out with friends in the Warehouse District in Minneapolis when he was hit.
While Randle said she drank only one glass of wine, she admitted taking four Percocet a doctor had prescribed for migraines. Witnesses said she also drank vodka that night.
Randle was driving with a revoked license at the time because of an earlier conviction for driving under the influence.
The prosecutor said she will seek a four-year sentence while Lamas said she will argue Randle is truly remorseful and ask for three.
