A Simsbury police detective said Joseph Stravinkas was firing the BB rifle at tin cans in a wooded area just off Cottage Grove Road, the route the presidential motorcade traveled Monday to and from Bradley International Airport.

Police Capt. Stephen Hajdasz said Stravinkas, 27, was arrested because he did not cooperate with the detective. He was charged with breach of the peace, threatening and interfering with police.

Secret Service agents questioned Stravinkas after his arrest, Hajdasz said. Stravinkas was described as homeless and told police he was at a friend's house in the neighborhood.

Obama was in Connecticut to talk about gun control.
