NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) -- A restaurant worker in New York may have infected customers with hepatitis, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said.
The department has advised anyone who ate dessert at the Alta tapas restaurant between March 23 and April 2 to get a hepatitis vaccination shot as soon as possible as a precautionary measure, CNN reported Saturday.
The restaurant said about 3,000 people ate there during that time period and about 450 of them ordered dessert that may have been contaminated by an employee who was infected with hepatitis A. The employee is no longer "on the premises," the restaurant owner said.
Health officials said there have not been any confirmed cases of Alta patrons contracting hepatitis, which infects the liver and causes jaundice.
