SANTA FE, N.M., April 4 (UPI) -- A former shoe salesman was arrested in Santa Fe, N.M., for allegedly trying to bite off his ex-girlfriend's toe, police said.
Daniel Anaya, who used to work in the shoe department at a local store, was arrested this week and charged with kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated stalking and assault charges for allegedly attacking his former girlfriend, KOAT-TV, Albuquerque, N.M., reported Wednesday.
Police said Anaya tracked down the woman, who had a restraining order against him and had moved to another town to get away from him.
The victim told police Anaya showed up at her home, said she had ruined his life and forced her to the ground. He then allegedly tried to bite her toe and injured her foot with a cigar cutter.
"Being able to go after a toe with that type of a weapon would cause excruciating pain," said Celina Westervelt with Santa Fe police. "It is a bizarre case."
This is not the first time Anaya allegedly attacked the woman; he was arrested and charged in February with the same crime. Court documents show those charges were dismissed because a witness or prosecutor failed to show up in court.
