Sheriff: Two escape, may have separated

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas, April 3 (UPI) -- Texas officials say they don't know whether two inmates who escaped from an east Texas jail are still together.

Brian Tucker, 44, and John King, 39, escaped early Tuesday from the Hopkins County jail in Sulphur Springs, ABC News.com reported.

"Right now, we don't know if they split up or if they're still together, said Sheriff Butch Adams. "We found their uniforms when they discarded them on the road behind us and the dogs tracking them and we found footprints."

The escaped prisoners are considered dangerous but Adams said he did not know whether they were armed.

The pair was kept segregated from the general jail population because of the nature of their crimes, said Deputy Alvin Jordan. Tucker was a capital murder suspect, and King was being held on suspicion of evading officers.

Adams said volunteers were coming from other counties to assist in the search.
