NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- New York City police Sunday had yet to find a couple they believe were abducted as they walked in a Manhattan neighborhood two days earlier.
Police had yet to identify the couple they believe were confronted at gunpoint and forced into a dark-colored minivan about 7 p.m. Friday in the Washington Heights neighborhood, The New York Times reported. No one has reported the man and woman missing, police spokesman Paul J. Browne told the newspaper.
Witnesses told police they heard the woman scream when two men forced the couple into a minivan at gunpoint, the Times said.
"It looked like they were targeted," a resident, Sarah Jacobson, said. "I don't think it was random."
Surveillance videos captured the couple walking down West 173rd Street and turning onto Haven Avenue and two men, followed by the minivan, heading toward them. But the tapes didn't reveal enough to produce any suspects.
Investigators were able to establish a partial license plate number but have yet to find the minivan or figure out who the couple are or why they were abducted.
"We are expanding our search," Brown said.
