Coast Guard looks into Carnival incidents

MIAMI, March 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard said it will investigate a mechanical problem that cut short the Carnival Dream cruise ship's voyage to the Caribbean.

The Carnival Dream docked in St. Maarten Saturday for repairs to a faulty generator. The Coast Guard in Miami has since decided to investigate the incident.

The Dream was the third Carnival vessel to experience mechanical difficulties in recent weeks. The Carnival Legend this week cut short its seven-day Caribbean cruise because of trouble with a propulsion unit off Honduras. The Coast Guard also said it was looking into the problems on the Legend.

The Carnival Elation had troubles last week with the same piece of equipment, known as an Azipod unit, and had to abort its departure from New Orleans.
