CINCINNATI, March 18 (UPI) -- Three teenagers charged in the Cincinnati-area beating of a man, telling investigators they committed the crime because they were bored, pleaded guilty Monday.
Daquan Cain, Lamont Champion and Antonio Hendrix, all 14, admitted to one count of felonious assault at a pretrial hearing in Hamilton County Juvenile Court Monday, in the Aug. 11, 2012, attack on Pat Mahaney, 45, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Three others charged in the crime, Tyree Mizzell, 13, Michael E. James, 15, and Terrell Mizzell, 13, are scheduled for separate hearings in upcoming weeks.
Cain, Champion and Hendrix admitted to the count in exchange for prosecutors dropping a charge of aggravated riot and a youthful offender stipulation that could have sentenced them under a blend of juvenile and adult guidelines, North College Hill Police Chief Gary Foust said.
Mahaney was walking home from a convenience store on a Saturday evening with a six-pack of beer when he was assaulted and beaten, police said.
The suspects told investigators they attacked Mahaney because they were "bored" and "looking for something to do," a police report said.
