Bobby Jindal fine after accident

BATON ROUGE, La., March 18 (UPI) -- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was uninjured in a Baton Rouge car-truck accident while he headed home from his son's soccer game, authorities said.

Police said one of Jindal's bodyguards was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after the Sunday accident, The Advocate of Baton Rouge reported Monday.

The governor was in one of two vehicles heading to his home when the car he was in was struck by a truck making an illegal U-turn, police said.

The second vehicle in his security detail made an evasive maneuver to avoid hitting the truck and the car carrying Jindal and struck a utility pole, investigators said.

"The governor was involved in a traffic accident this afternoon on the way home from his son's soccer game after a truck made an illegal U-turn in front of his vehicle. The governor did not sustain any injuries and he is thankful for the work of the Louisiana State Police who keep him and his family safe every day," Sean Lansing, the governor's spoksman, said in an email Sunday.
