FULLERTON, Calif., March 18 (UPI) -- A Fullerton, Calif., police officer survived being shot multiple times in his protective vest Sunday and two suspects were arrested, police said.

Marcos Bush, 29, of Santa Ana was picked up on suspicion of attempted murder and Sjanee Duhart, 27, of Riverside was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the attempted murder, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Fullerton police Lt. Michael Chlebowski said the officer, whose name wasn't reported, pulled over the two suspects about 12:13 a.m. and approached their car. Chlebowski said the driver fired a handgun, striking the officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, multiple times.

The seven-year department veteran return fired, but it was not known if he struck either suspect.

The officer was hospitalized in stable condition.

Investigators tracked the car allegedly involved in Riverside where they arrested Duhart. They then developed information that led them to a home in Anaheim where they arrested Bush after a short chase on foot and seized a semiautomatic handgun.
