FRESNO, Calif., March 11 (UPI) -- Cat Haven, the California big cat sanctuary where an intern was killed by a lion, has reopened its doors to the public for the first time since the incident.
The sanctuary reopened Sunday after being closed since Wednesday when 24-year-old Dianna Hanson, an intern at the facility, was killed by a 5-year-old lion, The Fresno (Calif.) Bee reported.
The Lion, named Cous Cous, was then killed by sheriff's deputies.
At the park on Sunday, staffers wore shirts that read "In loving memory of Dianna Hanson and Cous Cous."
Sanctuary founder Dale Anderson said he wanted to commemorate Hanson, as well as get back to normal at the park.
"Our business here is to save cats around the world," he said. "It's just the right thing to do, to open... I hope what we're doing here can honor [Hanson] and Cous Cous, too."
