PHILADELPHIA, March 7 (UPI) -- High bail was set Wednesday for a young couple who allegedly stole a series of cars including police cruisers in Camden, N.J., and Philadelphia.

Shayna Sykes, 23, and Blake Bills, 24, were arrested Tuesday after a bi-state chase across the Delaware River into Philadelphia. Both face a long list of charges, including the attempted murder of a police officer, KYW-TV reported.

They were being held in Philadelphia with bail set at $700,000 for Sykes and $300,000 for Bills.

The couple's alleged crimes began Friday at home in Macungie, Pa., near Allentown, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. That was where they borrowed a car from Sykes' grandmother, telling her they had to see a lawyer and promising to be back soon.

Macungie Police Chief Ed Harry said the grandmother reported Sykes and the car missing on Monday.

Investigators say the couple were still in Sharon Sykes' Mazda on Sunday when a police officer saw them trying to buy drugs in Camden. They allegedly fled in the car.

On Monday, they allegedly stole a Nissan Altima from a Philadelphia deliveryman who left it with the keys in the ignition while he made a quick stop. Early Tuesday, a Camden officer offered assistance when he found them in the Altima, which had broken down, but they left on foot while he was responding to a radio call.

Police in Camden say Bills grabbed a cruiser while Officer Sekou Reid-Bey was involved in a traffic stop and drove off, hitting the officer, whose leg was hurt. Bills was arrested in Philadelphia, but Sykes grabbed another cruiser and struck several parked cars before she was nabbed.

His lawyer said Bills faces a burglary charge in Macungie. Sykes has a history of drunk driving.

The couple were described by family members as engaged and have a baby daughter.
