EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J., March 5 (UPI) -- A New Jersey man is suing Morgan State University in Maryland for an alleged attack by a would-be cannibal he says school officials knew had mental problems.
Joshua Ceasar, 23, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., was visiting friends on the campus last May when he was hit over the head by his friend's roommate, Alexander Kinyua, who used a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire as a weapon, the Philadelphia Daily News said Tuesday.
Ceasar's friends returned in time to spot Kinyua allegedly dragging Ceasar down a hallway and stopped him, Ceasar's lawsuit states.
Just days later Kinyua allegedly killed a man staying with his family and allegedly admitted to police he dragged the body into the woods where he ate the man's heart and part of his brain.
Kinyua was committed to a state mental hospital following his arrest.
Ceasar, who is partially blind because of the attack, said school officials had been warned multiple times of Kinyua's erratic behavior. ROTC officers said Kinyua punched a hole in a wall and one officer called him a "Virginia Tech waiting to happen" -- referencing the disturbed man who killed 33 on the Virginia campus. Students said he'd gone on satanic rants on Facebook.
"By May 2012, it was well-known to the counselors, ROTC instructors, and Morgan State officials that Mr. Kinyua's erratic, aggressive and bizarre behavior was increasingly getting out of control, especially his obsession with world cleansing, the end of the world, and violence," Steve Silverman, Ceasar's Baltimore attorney, wrote in the 20-page lawsuit.
A spokesman said the school does not comment on pending litigation.
