LAS VEGAS, March 5 (UPI) -- The brother of a taxi driver killed in a car accident caused by a shooting death in Las Vegas said people with criminal pasts shouldn't be allowed to have guns.
Michael Boldon, 62, died Feb. 21 after the taxi he was driving was struck by a Maserati driven by rap musician Kenneth Cherry Jr. Cherry had allegedly been shot to death by self-described pimp Ammar Harris after the two had an altercation in a nearby parking lot.
A passenger in the taxi, Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, also died when the taxi burst into flames upon impact.
Boldon's brother, Tehran Boldon, said Monday there should be stiffer gun control to prevent incidents like the death of his brother from happening, the Las Vegas Sun reported Tuesday.
"He was an innocent bystander. He wasn't a pimp or rapper. He was a man earning a living and caring for his family," Tehran Boldon said of his brother.
"There are too many violent felons out there with guns," he added. "We need legislation to eliminate assault weapons and stop guns from getting into the hands of violent criminals, and we need to stop giving in to the gun lobby."
A judge ordered a March 14 extradition hearing for Harris Monday.
Authorities said Harris has a violent past, with convictions in South Carolina and Georgia. He was also previously arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of sexual assault and pandering with force, police said.
