Pregnant teen gets temporary reprieve

HOUSTON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A Texas judge has granted a temporary restraining order against a Houston couple trying to force their pregnant teenage daughter to have an abortion.

The Texas Center for Defense of Life filed a lawsuit on the teen's behalf charging the parents with violating their daughter's constitutional right to carry her child to term, ABC News reported.

The teen, identified only as R.E.K., said her parents pulled her out of school and forced her to get two jobs "to make her miserable so that she would give in to the coercion and have the abortion," the lawsuit said.

The girl's parents did not show up in court Tuesday when the judge issued the temporary restraining order and also asked Child Protective Services to investigate the couple, KTRK-TV, Houston, reported.

The judge scheduled an injunction hearing for Friday afternoon.
