6 in trouble for Coast Guard Academy sex

NEW LONDON, Conn., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A non-cadet U.S. Coast Guard member was dismissed and five civilian employees faced discipline for inappropriate sexual activity at the Coast Guard Academy.

David Santos, a spokesman for the academy in New London, Conn., said some of those involved had sex on campus, The Day of New London reported. Others engaged in inappropriate online chat or the sending of inappropriate material using government computers.

Two of the five civilians resigned, and the other three were disciplined, Santos said. No criminal charges were filed in the matter, which took place over a 2 1/2-year period and came under investigation last summer.

"The Coast Guard has extensive policies outlining appropriate actions and behaviors in the workplace and on government property. When an individual is suspected of violating these policies, we carefully follow the system in place to protect the rights of all involved in the matter," Rear Adm. Sandra L. Stosz, the academy superintendent, said.
