Students seek non-gay prom

SULLIVAN, Ind., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A group of Indiana high school students and their parents are lobbying for a prom to which gay students would not be invited, officials say.

Saying homosexuality was "offensive" to them, the group wants their own prom at Sullivan High School, WTWO-TV, Terre Haute, reported.

"We want to make the public see that we love the homosexuals, but we don't think it's right nor should it be accepted," a student member of the group said during a meeting Sunday at Sullivan First Christian Church.

Local resident Jim Davis disagrees with what the group is trying to do.

"Love them as a person," he said. "You don't have to love what they do, because the gays may not love all the mistakes you make."

Several local pastors say they support the idea of a separate prom but Sullivan High School officials say there is nothing legally they can do.
