UCF's Sigma Chi fraternity suspended

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- An official said the University of Central Florida chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity has been suspended amid hazing concerns.

A letter sent to the fraternity president Friday said fraternity members are accused of disruptive conduct, alcohol-related misconduct and hazing.

"UCF has issued an interim suspension to the Sigma Chi fraternity chapter following a preliminary review of hazing and alcohol-related allegations," spokesman Grant Heston said. "We will conduct a thorough, timely and fair review of the allegations."

The Orlando Sentinel said all fraternity activities have been canceled until the suspension is lifted.

The chapter was recently put on probation in September of 2011 for not taking steps to prevent underage drinking at fraternity events, the Orlando Sentinel said.
