On Jan. 29, Thurman asked another inmate to find someone to kill the three, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities said Thurman was given the phone number of an undercover investigator posing as a hit man the next day.

He offered the investigator his sport utility vehicle and $8,000, the sheriff's office said, for killing the three "as soon as possible."

The Tribune said Thurman was charged with attempted murder for hire and solicitation of murder for hire.
