GRESHAM, Ore., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Celebrity baker Duff Goldman has come to the rescue of a lesbian couple denied a wedding cake by a bakery in Oregon.
The "Ace of Cakes" star says he will provide the women a cake free of charge, ABC News reported Sunday.
"I said, 'Hey I can fix this problem. Somebody was a jerk to them and I can bake them a cake. That's what I can do,'" said Goldman, who baked a cake for the presidential inaugural ball last month.
"It involves cake, it involves love, marriage, all things I'm a big fan of."
Aaron Klein, co-owner of Sweet Cakes in Gresham with his wife Melissa, told KATU-TV, Portland, recently he would not make the unidentified couple's wedding cake because of his religious beliefs.
"I honestly did not mean to hurt anybody, didn't mean to make anybody upset, [it's] just something I believe in very strongly," he said.
The Oregon Department of Justice was looking into the matter after one of the women filed a complaint.
The brides, in a statement delivered by their lawyer, thanked their friends, family members and the community for the "outpouring of support."
"We are especially thankful that LGBT-supportive companies have graciously offered their services to make our special day perfect," they said.
