Man suspected of aiming laser at copter

DALLAS, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A man was jailed Monday after allegedly shining a laser at a Dallas police helicopter, officials said.

The high-powered laser light was directed at a helicopter searching for suspects in a car burglary in the early-morning hours. The pilot directed ground units to the source of the light, police said.

The unnamed suspect was arrested. A camera aboard the helicopter recorded the incident, The Dallas Morning News reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the incident, spokesman Lynn Lunsford said, adding that "in addition to federal criminal charges, shining a laser at an aircraft can also carry a civil penalty of up to $11,000 from the FAA."
