Nevada lawmaker threatens colleague

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A Nevada state lawmaker has been jailed after allegedly threatening a fellow lawmaker with physical violence, police said.

Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks, 40, a Democrat from North Las Vegas, had made public threats toward Nevada Assembly Speaker-elect Marilyn Kirkpatrick. The Las Vegas Sun said Brooks was upset about the committee posts he was given by Kirkpatrick.

Police said Brooks was arrested following a traffic stop in North Las Vegas Saturday afternoon. Police said he had a loaded gun in the car and had threatened to shoot Kirkpatrick.

He has been charged with one count of intimidating a public officer by threat of physical violence.
