Five die in single-vehicle accident

SPENCER, N.C., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Five people, including two children, were killed and three other children were injured when a sports utility vehicle crashed in North Carolina, officials said.

The vehicle carrying nine people crashed into a tree Friday night in Spencer, N.C. The passengers were en route to a belated New Year's Eve party, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.

Angela Monique Dunlap, 28, of Spencer, was driving the SUV when it crashed, police said. She was killed along with her 10-year-old daughter Da'Ja Cathcart and her fiance's daughter, 4-year-old Karizma Nicole Sexton. Police said Vincent McNeal, 45, and Sean Javan Jacobs, 25, were the other two adults killed in the crash.

Charles Patrick, 10, the nephew and cousin of McNeal and Jacobs respectively, survived the crash, as did Dunlap's 6-year-old twins Davion and Javion Williams. Dunlap's 8-year-old daughter Taliah Williams was declared brain dead, family members said.

Police are investigating what led to the crash, the newspaper said.
