Custom agents seize 230 pounds of cheese

SANTA TERESA, N.M., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Customs agents seized 230 pounds of cheese from a pickup truck entering the United States at a New Mexico border crossing, agency officials said.

The cheese was inside three ice chests in the back of a vehicle driven by a man from Aurora, Colo., The El Paso (Texas) Times reported Wednesday.

Customs said the amount of cheese in the shipment was too much for personal use and large enough to be deemed a commercial import.

Officials did not disclose the type of cheese that was seized but it appeared to be the kind used in popular Mexican recipes.

The cheese was destroyed and the driver fined $300.
