LAS VEGAS, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The woman accused of killing a 10-year-old Nevada girl pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to murder and kidnapping charges.

A judge ordered Brenda Stokes Wilson, 50, held without bail, KTNV-TV, Las Vegas, reported. Prosecutors say Stokes Wilson could face the death penalty if she is convicted.

Jade Morris never returned from a Dec. 21 shopping trip with Stokes Wilson, a friend of her family. Stokes was arrested the same day after she allegedly slashed the face of a co-worker at the Bellagio Casino with a razor blade.

Jade's body was discovered a few days later dumped in a vacant lot. She had been stabbed repeatedly.

Investigators said Monday they found bloody clothes at Stokes Wilson's home.

A judge in Las Vegas scheduled a preliminary hearing March 28. Stokes Wilson is charged with murder, kidnapping, burglary, attempted murder, battery and mayhem, all with use of a deadly weapon.

A funeral service is set for Jade on Friday at the Bread of Life Ministries in Las Vegas.
