COLUMBIA, S.C., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford told supporters Saturday he planned to run for a seat in the U.S. Congress.
Sanford will vie for the seat being vacated by Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., who was appointed to the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.

WSOC-TV in Charlotte, N.C. said the email announcement was sent out Saturday night and ended a week of speculation Scott was ready to get back in the political saddle. Sanford finished out his term as governor two years ago with a brief but odd absence from the capital while visiting a girlfriend in Argentina.
