LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles County jail guard was charged with assaulting two inmates, in separate incidents, and falsifying reports about them, officials said.

Jermaine Jackson, 35, a five-year sheriff's jailer, was held Thursday on charges including assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, assault by a public officer and filing false reports, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The charges stem from a declaration filed last year by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California for inmate Derek Griscavage, who alleged that Jackson punched and kicked him so badly he was hospitalized.

That alleged incident occurred at the Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles on Christmas Day 2010.

Jackson is also accused of assaulting Cesar Campana, an inmate at the Compton courthouse lockup, in December 2009.

The jailer, whose bail was set at $100,000, is on leave without pay pending the outcome of the case, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

"The sheriff is taking this very seriously," Whitmore said.

He said the incidents were isolated, with no other employees involved.
