The armed man, whose name was not reported, shot the woman multiple times as she headed to her vehicle with her 12-year-old daughter, Sunrise police spokeswoman Michelle Eddy said.

The woman managed to drive away in the church's parking lot. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale where she was recovering, The Miami Herald reported.

The woman's name and condition and a possible motive for the shooting were not reported.

The young girl was not injured.

"It was crazy. We just started running because a stray bullet doesn't know anyone," witness Herrietha Gary said. "I've never been so scared in all the days in my life -- just frantic."
