Federal prosecutors seeking life sentence

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Federal prosecutors are seeking life imprisonment for a New York woman and her brother who hired hit men to kill her husband and his mother.

Prosecutors called Narcy Novack and her brother Cristobal Veliz "pathological liars and sociopaths" -- using Novack's own words to detectives as justification for locking her up for life.

"And now I saw that there's a monster there, because this is not a person ... only a monster can do this kind of evil thing," she told Westchester County police after being arrested in July 2009. A jury convicted the pair of murder, the White Plains Journal News said Monday.

Prosecutors said Novack and Feliz hired hitmen to kill Novack's mother-in-law, Bernice Novack, 86 -- she was beaten with a wrench outside her Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home -- and later Ben Novack Jr. -- he was beaten with dumbbells inside a hotel room. Novack stole $100,000 from a convention her husband was running at the time of his death, police said.
