Couple held after beating son, fleeing

PLAISTOW, N.H., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A judge ordered a New Hampshire couple who went on a lavish vacation after leaving the woman's severely beaten son at hospital held on high bail Monday.

Jennifer Linscott, 23, of Plaistow, who broke down in tears before a judge during a video arraignment, was ordered held on $100,000 bail. Her boyfriend, Roland Dow, 27, was stoic as he was ordered held on $500,000 bail, the Boston Herald reported.

Dow is accused of beating Linscott's 3-year-old son and burning his hands and wrists before he and Linscott dumped him off at an area hospital. The couple allegedly ran away together, first to Boston, then New York and eventually Orlando, Fla., where federal marshals arrested them at a Universal Studios theme park.

The child's paternal grandfather, Peter Nicholson, said the child has regained his vision, which doctors feared might have been lost due to the severity of the beating.

"My grandson is doing better everyday," Nicholson said. "He's still in the hospital, but he's doing better, so that's a plus. He's been through so much, I just want to treat him like gold when he gets out."

Nicholson's son, James, who died of a drug overdose, is the boy's father.
